Iqbal is a famous Hindi movie based on the game of cricket. The movie is a gritty tale of a deaf-mute boy who dreams of playing for the Indian Cricket team. The story line of Iqbal, which focuses on the fortitude and never say die attitude of the boy has won many reviews.

Directed by Nagesh Kukunoor the movie features actor Shreyas Talpade in the lead role. The story revolves around the deaf and mute Muslim boy from a non-descript village. The boy holds an inherent talent for bowling at a good pace.

With handicap notwithstanding, Iqbal ardently aspires to be a part of the Indian national team. And to meet his dream he practices on a parched farmland with mere 3 cut sticks making up for the stumps. He is backed in his endeavor by his mother and supportive sister who have full confidence in the young boy's ability to turn things around.

With help from his sister, Iqbal gets enrolled in the Kolipad Cricket Academy. Here he gets training under a professional coach. But Iqbal's training is short-lived as he is thrown out of the academy for no obvious reasons. However his stint in the academy teaches him how to approach the game. He persuades Mohit Shah, an unsuccessful cricketer to coach him. Under Mohit's able guidance Iqbal shapes up well. Mohit gets so deeply involved in the job that he takes to himself the task of cocooning Iqbal from the internal politics which afflict the game.

Iqbal finally gets his big break. He his picked up to play for a crucial Ranji trophy match. His performance would make or break his future. After overcoming many more barriers he finally finds his place in the Indian squad.

One good thing about the movie is that at no point of time it makes you pity the handicap of the protagonist. Instead his determination despite his limitations will help you learn how to fight your way out when the odds are heavily stacked against you.

The performances from Shreyas Talpade and Naseeruddin Shah make the film worth watching. With the help of his grimaces and gestures Talpade effectively brings forth the inner zeal, passion and indomitable spirit of his character. Naseeruddin Shah plays his role to perfection. He delivers a highly balanced and restrained performance.

Iqbal' is a movie of grit and fortitude. It effectively conveys that the challenge lies within and not without. .
