If you love simple, light-hearted entertainments then go for Hat Trick. This is one of the Bollywood films with cricket as its background. Though the movie does not bowl you over yet you will enjoy watching Hat Trick.
Hat Trick has been directed by Milan Luthria. Like his other movies in this film also he shows how his leading characters compelled by their circumstances rectify themselves by doing soul searching. The film provides entertainment and is also an interesting blend of comedy and emotional moments.
The title "Hat Trick" refers to three parallel stories in the movie and the characters in them. The game of Cricket is not related directly to the film. The three stories that you see in the film do not crisscross except for one small instance. In spite of this audience can clearly identify the common theme running through them.
All the leading characters have some faults and they are required to look within and change themselves in order to put things into right perspective. And here lies the essence of the story of `Hat Trick`.
Nana Patekar is a doctor and he is famous as Dr. Satyajit. He is a person with hardly any emotion and also does not prefer unnecessary talks even at home. If a patient has no chance to survive, Dr. Satyajit doesn`t mind telling him straightaway that he is on his deathbed. At home, he talks only to the point with his wife and his son. No better actor than Nana Patekar would have excelled in this role. Thus it seems that Milan had Nana in mind when he framed the role.
But one day he comes in contact with a patient who is greatly obsessed with cricket. This patient is Danny Denzongpa and he is a former cricketer. His ailment can not stop him from being lively and joyous. He only desire is to watch the ongoing cricket world cup. Moreover it is David who ultimately brings about a change in Satyajit`s life.
Next you get introduced to Hemu Patel or Paresh Rawal. He is a gatekeeper at an airport in England. He has been away from his native land Gujrat for many years. He has a loving wife and an indisciplined daughter. He tells his friend that he is in the Immigration department. His only ambition is to get hold of an U.K citizenship. And for this he goes to the extent in supporting England in a match against India and thus downplays his patriotism. But the turn of events make him realize that he has been living in a bubble world and is also trying to portray a false-self.
The third story deals with a happily married couple Kunal Kapoor and Rimi Sen. But Kunal`s obsession for cricket rather for Dhoni, Captain of Indian team, makes Kashmira (Rimi) jealous and frustrated. She decides to make her husband jealous and thus falls in love with Dhoni. Things get so worse between these two that they appeal for a divorce petition.
Thus Hat Trik through its little twists and turns and simple approach keeps you bound to your chair.
