Naseeruddin Shah has been one of the best things to happen to Bollywood. The film industry of Mumbai, which is into the making of films in the Hindi language is popularly also known as Bollywood. Naseeruddin Shah is an ex- student of the National School of Drama. He is also known to have gone onto enroll with yet another acting institute. Naseeruddin Shah debuted in the year 1975. This was with the film "Nishant". It was in the year 1979 that Naseeruddin Shah went on to bag the prestigious National Film Award conforred by the government of India. This was for the brilliant depiction of a blind man in the film 'Sparsh'.
In the year 1986, he tasted success when the film in which he featured along with a team of other successful stars "Karma", became a major hit. In this film, Shah got an opportunity to work with the well known director Subhash Ghai. This was followed by some more commercial films like 'Ghulam' (1985), 'Tridev' (1989), 'Vishwatma', (1992).
Naseeruddin Shah lent his histrionic talent to solo hero films such as Ijaazat (1987)", 'Jalwa (1988), as well as 'Hero Hiralal (1988). He would be remembered for his negative role in the movie 'Mohra'. He played a similar role in the movie 'Takkar' (1995).
However, Naseeruddin Shah will always be considered synonymous with serious cinema. The movies, of him that received great accolades and proved his versatility as an actor are 'Bhumika' (1977), 'Bhavni Bhavai(1980), 'Ardh Satya'(1992) and 'Mirch Masala'(1986).
In the movie, 'Mirch Masala', he played the role of a tax collector. The film is an inspiring narrative and it deals with the spice grinder who confronts an unwanted as well as a difficult situation with remarkable intelligence. Shah has also acted in international projects like 'Monsoon Wedding', where he played the role of a supportive uncle as well as the father of the bride as well in the Hollywood comic book adaptation of 'The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen'. This movie is based on a book by the same name in which he played Captain Nemo co starring with the likes of Sean Connery. This was in the year 2003.
Shah is considered to be a brilliant theater actor as well. In the year 2001, he was seen in the theatrical adaptation based on the short stories written by the popular short-story writer Ismat Chugtai.
Winner of many prestigious film awards including the Padmashri, it goes without saying that Naseeruddin Shah is one of the most eminent as well as the most Popular Male Actors in Bollywood.
