Mithun Chakraborty is an award winning superstar of Bollywood in the 80s. The actor though ranks among the top Bollywood stars also played lead roles in some Bhojpuri and popular Bengali movies. The filmstar whose popularity is evident even today now runs a chain of hotels called Monarch Hotels.

Early Life of Mithun Chakraborty
Mithun Chakraborty, whose original name was Gouranga Chakraborty was born in 16th June 1950 in Barisal. The actor earned his B.Sc degree in chemistry from Scottish Church College, Calcutta. He also earned a graduation degree from Film and Television Institute of India. The actor also has a training in martial arts.

The actor in his early life was a Naxalite but compelled to leave the movement when his brother died of an accident. This incident changed the course of life and in the following years he established himself as one of the eminent actors of Bollywood.



Mithun Chakraborty`s Film Career
The actor made his debut in 1976 with Mrinal Sen`s movie Mrigaya. The actor won the National Award for Best Actor for his debut film. He made his debut in Bollywood with the films like Do Anjaane and Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan. Both the films failed in box office but his stunning role in Suraksha and Hum Panch won him fame and recognition.Disco Dancer (1982) and Dance Dance won him the reputation of an impressive dancer.

Mithun Chakraborty also played leading role in a number of films based on family drama. Mujhe Insaaf Chahiye, Pyaar Ka Mandir, Swarg Se Sunder, Pyaar Jhukta Nahin were some of the films which are remembered for his outstanding role. His role in Wanted, Jagir, Boxer, Jaal, Commando, Watan Ke Rakhwale, Dushman, Waqt Ki Awaz designated him as an action hero.

He won Filmfare Awards twice; in 1990 he win the award for best supporting role in Agneepath and in 1995 as Best Villain Award for Jallaad. In 1995 he also won Star Screen Award Best Villain for his role in Jallaad. He won the Lifetime Achievement Award from Stardust.

The actor is also renowned for his performances in non commercial movies. He won National Award For Best Actor thrice. Besides Mrigaya, he won the best actor award for his impressive role in Tahader Katha and also and his role as Swami Vivekananda in the film by same name.

Mithun Chakraborty married filmstar Yogita Bali and is the father of three sons and a daughter. The actor is now a social activist and payed the highest tax in the country from 1994 to 1999.
