John Abraham is one of the most successful male models who established a sound career in Bollywood with his acting capabilities. John Abraham was born on December 17, 1974, in the city of Mumbai, India. His father is a Christian from Kerala and his mother is from the Parsi community in Bombay. Though his Parsi name is Farhan, his father added the name "Abraham" to his son. Being a Catholic, John`s father wanted to pay a mark of respect to `Abraham`, the first patriarch and primogenitor of the Hebrews, as is found in the Bible. His schooling had been from Bombay Scottish School and later he went to the Jai Hind College for higher studies. He was an enthusiastic sportsman and was the captain of the college football team. He did his MBA degree from Mumbai Educational Trust (MET).
Acting Career of John Abraham
John started his professional career with the media firm Time & Space Media Entertainment Promotions Ltd., and later he worked as a media planner in Enterprise-Nexus. His modeling career started in 1999 after he won the Gladrags Manhunt Contest and went for the Manhunt International in Singapore where he won the second place. After this, he appeared in many commercial advertisements and consequently he completed a course on acting.
The acting career of John Abraham started in 2003 with his debut film `Jism` that was great hit. He got noticed as an actor and signed his next films of the same year `Saaya` and `Paap`. But these two didn`t do good business and John`s first blockbuster hit came in 2004 with the movie `Dhoom`. In 2005, his next release came, which was a supernatural thriller `Kaal`. The comedy movie `Garam Masala` also released in the same year.
John`s acting talent found projection in the critically acclaimed film `Water`, written and directed by Deepa Mehta. This became an oversea hit and was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 79th Oscars. Thus John gained an international exposure in the acting world.
