Jagdeep was one of the popular actors of Indian Cinema known for his comic roles in a number of films in the 1950s through the 1980s. As a comedian Jagdeep achieved huge success and the directors wanted to cast him in almost every film. Though he is better known for his comic roles, Jagdeep also played lead roles in five films, which included Bhabhi with co- stars Barkha and Nanda and Dhoti Lota Aur Chowpatty (1975). His real was Syed Jawaher Ali Jaffry, though for his film career, he was better known as Jagdeep. Till date actor Jagdeep is remembered as one of the famous comedians.

Jagdeep's Film Career
Jagdeep's film career began as a child artist in movies such as Afsana, directed by B. R. Chopra, followed by Ab Dilli Door Nahin. He was also cast as a child artist in AVM's Hum Panchi Ek Dal Ke and Munna directed by K.A Abbas. His first role in a comic character was in Bimal Roy's film Do Bigha Zameen. With this film, Jagdeep's career as a comic actor started. In many of AVM's films Jagdeep was chosen the favorite comedian.



Some of the most memorable comic roles played by Jagdeep were the films such as Sholay and Soorma Bhopali. In Soorma Bhopali, his Bhopal accent got him several requests for similar roles. Jagdeep's only production was also named Soorma Bhopali. There are many other popular films in which Jagdeep played the adorable comedian making the audience laugh to his funny mannerisms. Some of these include Aawaz (1956), Hum Panchhi Ek Dal Ke (1957), Ab Dilli Dur Nahin (1957), Solva Saal (1958) and many more.

Personal Life of Jagdeep


Not much is known about the Bollywood comedian Jagdeep's personal life. Having started his film career as a child artist, he managed to create a place for himself in the hearts of the Indian audiences with his hilarious roles. His two sons Jaaved Jafri and Naved Jafri are popular television personalities in India. His elder son Jaaved also starred in several Bollywood films including the quite recent Salaam Namaste where he played a comic character.
