Govind Arun Ahuja, commonly known as Govinda, is a popular actor in Bollywood known for his tickling sense of humor and innocence. He started his film career at the age of 23 with his debut film in the year 1986; he has acted in more than 120 Hindi films. He joined politics in 2004 after winning a parliamentary seat from Mumbai North. Govinda received many Filmfare Awards throughout his acting career, along with IIFA Awards, Zee Cine Awards, Star Awards, and also MTV Lycra Style Awards.

Biographical Details of Govinda
Govinda was born to actor Arun and singer Nirmala on December 21, 1963. He completed his academic qualifications from Annasaheb Vartak College in Vasai, Maharashtra. Though Govinda wanted to marry actress Neelam who played the role of the leading actress with him in many films, he gave up and married Sunita Goving according to his mother's choice. His marriage took place on March 11, 1987. He has two children from her. Govinda is reputed for being one of the most successful comedy actors in Bollywood, especially during the 1990s.



He is a very professional actor who even didn't cancel his shooting for the film Khuddar (1994) after sustaining head injuries. He went on shooting for the film till midnight after visiting a doctor and getting the first-aid done. From 2003-2007, he actively participated in politics, and then in 2007 he made a successful comeback with the film Partner.

Film Career of Govinda
Govinda started his film career with his debut film 'Ilzaam' in the year 1986 that proved a box-office hit and his acting career got a firm foundation. After that, he acted in a string of movies that were mixed success. Most of the movies in which he acted during the 1980s were either in romantic, family drama, or in action genres. Actress Neelam used to be his heroine in most of the films in the 1980s like in Khudgarz (1987), Love 86 (1986), and Hatya (1987). His family dramas like Jeete Hain Shaan se (1988), Dariya Dil (1988) and Hum (1991) were box-office successes like his action movies Marte Dum Tak (1987) and Jung Baaz.

From 1989 onwards, Govinda formed a successful collaboration with David Dhawan and acted in 17 films directed by Dhawan, mostly in the comedy genre. Some of the most successful collaboration of this actor and director duo includes Shola Aur Shabnam (1992), Raja Babu (1994), Aankhen (1993), Coolie No. 1 (1995), Hero No. 1 (1997), Saajan Chaale Sasural (1996), Deewana Mastana (1997), Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (1998), etc. Govinda tried his hands in the role of a villain for the first time in the film Shikari (2000). Govinda made a comenback in Bollywood with the comedy film Bhagam Bhag (2007) that was a great success. Other releases include Salaam-Ishq: A Tribute of Love and Partner.
