One of the ace actors of bollywood is Dev Anand who is not only known as an evergreen actor but also is known for its strong and attractive personality which has earned him fame not only in India but also abroad. Dev Anand`s full name is Dharam Dev Anand and was born on September 26, 1923. This legendary Bollywood actor is also a film producer. The second of his two brothers Chetan Anand and Vijay Anand, both of whom were movie directors, Dev Anand was the only actor. About Dev Anand, it is said that his actual name is Devdutt Pishorimal Anand. He was born in Gurdaspur. He completed his graduation from the Government College, Lahore (in Pakistan), in English literature. He began his career with the military censor office at Churchgate in Mumbai.



Dev Anand got his first acting break in Prabhat Talkies and starred in the film Hum Ek Hain. However his big break came as Ashok Kumar, his favorite actor offered him the role of the leading actor for the movie Ziddi. In 1949, Dev Anand, one of the most unforgettable and popular male actors in Bollywood took to film producing and opened his own company Navketan.

His performance for the crime thriller, Baazi made him more popular. He played negative role in Jaal. His typical style of dialogue delivery, and his typical dressing style with hats came to be distinctly recognized. He won the best actor award for his movie Kala Pani. Some of his most remarkable films are Guide, Johnny Mera Naam, Hare Rama Hare Krishna and Tere Mere Sapne.

Dev Anand also campaigned against Internal Emergency that imposed by Indira Gandhi- then Prime Minister of India. Most of his films are also recognized by their timeless musics which were sung by the famous singers of those times. His autobiography "Romancing with Life" has been recently released.
