Amitabh Bachhan is one of the most popular male actors in Bollywood and the reigning superstar who has been the epitome of perfection ever since he entered tinsel town in 1969. He is the biggest star of Indian cinema and in the century ending BBC 1999 millennium survey he was voted the Star of Millennium. Amitabh Bachhan started his film career in 1969 with the film Saat Hindustani for which he had won his first National Film Award for best new comer. This was followed by a few hits like Anand, Bombay to Goa, Raat ke Doosre Kinare Paar and more.
The 1970s took Amitabh Bachhan to the zenith of Bollywood superstardom and hits like Deewaar, Sholay, Trishul, Muqaddar Ka Sikander, Don, Kasme Vaade and others made him an icon in Indian cinema. Mr. Bachhan has been honored with several award which include three National Film Awards and Filmfare Awards. Amitabh Bachhan too had his share of unsuccessful films but that did no stop him from reaching new heights and reinventing himself over and over again. This superstar also tried his hand in politics and was a close friend of late Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi.
In 1996, the superstar set up his production company and named it Amitabh Bachhan Corporation, Ltd. (A.B.C.L.). The company went into several legal battles and a huge financial crisis and was later declared a failed company by Indian Industries board. In spite of this crisis Amitabh Bachhan managed to give his career another chance and stepped up to host India's television game-show called Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC).
The show became a huge success and reinstated Bachhan's popularity following which he started his second innings in Bollywood with bigger and better roles and continues to offer pleasant surprises to his millions of fans worldwide. Today you cannot think about Bollywood without Amitabh Bachhan.
