Ajay Devgan, whose original name is Vishal Devgan, is one of the prominent actors in
Bollywood who performed in a number of hit films. The actor who began as an action
hero slowly matured as serious actor and also played eminent roles in the comedy
movies. The award winning actor who made his debut in 1990s is regarded as one of
the popular Bollywood superstars.
Early Life of Ajay Devgan
Ajay Devgan is of Tarkhan Ramgarhia descend and hails from Punjab. His father Veeru Devgan is a well known name in film industry. He is a popular stunt choreographer and Anil Devgan, his brother is a film director of Mumbai film industry. The superstar completed his graduation from Mithibai College.
Ajay Devgan's Film Career
The actor made his debut in Bollywood with the superhit film Phool Aur Kante. He won the Filmfare Award for the best debutant. He performed leading role in some of the moderately hit films like Jigar, Platform, Sangram, Vijaypath, Haqeeqat, Jaan. In the initial years he was more popular as action hero. However he broke this action hero image with an impressive comic role in the film Ishq released in 1997.
The film was followed by a series of hit movies. His role as a protagonist in Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha earned him name as well as fame. His next film Zakhm was a success at the box office. He won National Award for best actor and also Star Screen Award in the category of best actor.
In 1999, he performed in another popular movie by Sanjay Leela Bansali, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. The film was a success both commercially as well as critically. The year 2002 proved to be a lucky year for him as he won recognition for two contradictory roles in two movies with completely different stories. He won the Star Screen Award for Best Actor in the same year for his predominant role in Company. In the same year he played the lead role in Raj Kumar Santoshi's The Legend Of Bhagat Singh. Devgan won National Film Award for Best Actor for the second time for his role as Bhagat Singh.
Ajay Devgan's role in Maniratnam's film Yuva is highly praiseworthy. In 2004 he also played the lead role in Rituparno Ghosh's movie Raincoat. The film failed at the box office. However Devgan was appreciated for his work. In 2006 he played the protagonist in Omkara, an adaptation from Shakespeare's drama Othello.
Ajay Devgan, the winner of two National Awards married film actress Kajol, his co star in many films. One of the famous Bollywood couples Ajay Devgan and Kajol is now the parents of a four years old daughter Nysa Mukherjee Devgan.
