Nida Fazli

Nida Fazli is a lyricist high on demand in the Hindi film Industry in Bombay. Nida Fazli attained fame after penning two of the lyrics of the movie Razia Sultan.

Nida Fazli was born in the city of Delhi on October 12, 1938. During the Partition of India his parents migrated to Pakistan, but young Nida Fazli decided to stay in India. He did his schooling from Gwalior and completed his post graduation at Gwalior College in 1954.

He got inspired to make his first serious attempts at writing poetry after overhearing a rendition of a hymn by a bhajan singer. He absorbed the essence of Mir and Ghalib to express what he intended.

In 1964, Nida Fazli came to Mumbai in search of a job. He began his writing career by contributing poetry for Dharmayug and Blitz. Because of his individual style of poetry, eminent personalities of films, Hindi and Urdu literature sat up and took notice of him. He got invitations to the famed Mushairas of Bombay.

Poet Nida Fazli cut an impression with the connoisseurs as well as ghazal singers. His works were appreciated because of its elegant presentation. One of the remarkable points of his writings is the random use of the colloquial language for ghazals, dohaas and nazms. To ensure simple writings he avoids ornate Persian imagery and convoluted words. This has brought his poetry close to everyone's heart.

Jaan Nisaar Akhtar who was appointed as a lyricist of the film Razia Sultan met with an untimely death. Kamal Amrohi, the filmmaker then requested Nida Fazli to take up the task of completing the list of songs. There were two more songs to be written, and he did that so gracefully that he started getting adulated by one and all of the industry. This opened a floodgate of offers.

To Nida Fazli the offers brought much success and fame. He penned the famous couplet, 'Duniya jise kehte hain jaadu kaa Khilona hai Mil jaaye to mitti hai kho jaaye to sona hai'. Some of his famous film songs include, Aa Bhi Jaa (Sur), Tu Is Tarha Se Meri zindagi mein Shaamil hai (Aap To Aise Na The) and Hosh Waalon Ko Kya Khabar (Sarfarosh).

His famous lyrics were also used in movies like is raat ki subah nahin, Tum to aise na the and Gudiya. Fazli even wrote the title song of T.V. serial Sailaab. The composition Koi Akelaa Kahaan is another popular number sung by Kavita Krishnamurthy. His ghazals and various compositions are sung by almost all the reputed artists of the day.
