Hasrat Jaipuri

Hasrat Jaipuri is one of the best Lyricists in Bollywood who have been in the Indian film industry for a long time. The lyricist is now being considered as an iconic figure in the Bollywood music world. The verses which came out of his pen were realistic, rhythmic and touched the soul.

Hasrat Jaipuri was actually known as Iqbal Hussain for a long time. He stayed at his hometown Jaipur till 1939 and received taalim in Urdu from his revered grandfather,Fida Hussain. Hasrat started off writing poetry at his early twenties. At about this point of time, the poet fell in love with a young girl called Radha. During that time, the poet penned down his famous lyrics "Yeh mera prem patra padhkar, ke tum naraaz na hona" which later became the hit song in Raj Kapoor's popular film Sangam.

Hasrat Jaipuri has written lyrics for about 350 films and recorded 2000 meodious songs. After he shifted to Mumbai, Hasrat had pocketed a job of a bus conductor.

He used to attend a lot of mushairas to satisfy his creative urges. He was lucky to come under the influence of Prithviraj Kapoor, who was very contented with his poetry. He was referred by him to Raj kapoor who at that time was working towards a musical love story.

Thus Hasrat got his big break with Raj kapoor in Barsaat. The first song recorded by Hasrat Jaipuri was Jiya bequarar Hai. Shanker Jaikishen was the first musician with whom he had worked at the beginning of his film career. Hasrat Jaipuri was associated with the Kapoor banner for a long time till 1971, after which the liaison broke.

Hasrat was again called back by Raj Kapoor for Prem Rog. Something went wrong and again we get to see them together in Ram Teri Ganga Maili. The "Sun Sahiba Sun" was created by Jaipuri and turned out to be one of the best songs of the year.

Some of the best songs of his career which have made an indelible mark on our hearts include Zindagi ek safar hai suhana" (Andaz), "Teri pyari pyari soorat ko" (Sasural), "Pankh hote to ud aati re" (Sehra), "Tere khayalon meinhum" (Geet Gaya Pattharon Ne), " Tu kahan yeh bataa" (Tere Ghar KeSaamne), "Muhabbat aisi dhadkan hai" (Anarkali), "Tu mere saamne hai, teri zulfein hai khuli" (Suhagan), "Nain se nain" (Jhanak Jhanak Paayal Baaje), "Ehsan tera hoga mujh par" (Junglee), "Teri zulfon se" (Jab PyarKisise Hota Hai) and "Tum mujhe yoon bhula na paaoge" (Pagla Kahin Ka) "Sayonara sayonara" (Love In Tokyo)," Aao twist karen" (Bhoot Bungla)."

The lyricist was showered with a host of national and international accolades like the Dr Ambedkar award for jhanak jhanak baaje payelia and filmfare for zindagi ek safar hai suhana and baharon phool barsao. Hasrat Jaipuri was an eminent lyricist of the Indian film industry and contributed greatly to the development of music in Hindi movies.
