Shekhar Kapur is one of the well known Film Makers in Bollywood. He was born on 6th of December in the year 1945 in Lahore, India. He is among the famous Indian film directors as well as producers. Shekhar Kapur is the related to well known actors like Vijay as well as Dev Anand. Kapur's family discouraged him from building a career in Indian cinema. As a result he studied accountancy. He became a chartered accountant when he was 22. Kapur relocated to Great Britain and kept working there for many years. He later married Suchitra Krishnamurthy. Shekhar Kapur received the Padma Shri, which is one of the most prestigious awards in India in the year 2000.

After Masoon, the next venture of this Bollywood film maker was Mr. India. This film released in 1987 and it starred Anil Kapoor, Sri Devi and Amrish Puri. This film was based on a real life woman dacoit who was serving a sentence in an Indian jail.

In the year 2002, The Four Feathers film was directed by Kapur. In 2007, Elizabeth: The Golden Age was directed by him. This film was again nominated for 2 Oscars and it won 1.

He also did a few shots for a film named Joshilay in the year 1989. This film had a popular star-cast which included actors like Sunny Deol, Sridevi, Anil Kapoor and Meenakshi Sheshadri. He shot for an incomplete film named Time Machine in the year 1992. He also shot some parts of a movie named Dushmani. This film had well known actors like Jackie Shroff, Sunny Deol and Manisha Koirala.

Kapur donned the hat of an executive producer for the Hindi film The Guru. He collaborated with Ram Gopal Verma as well as Mani Ratnam to form an Indian film company. The well known movie Dil Se, released in the year1998 was produced by this company.

He was also in-charge of the executive production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical Bombay Dreams which has been successfully running in cities like London and New York.

Shekhar Kapur is today among the Well Known Directors in Bollywood as well as Hollywood.
