Sakti Samanta is one of the popular film makers in Bollywood. He is one of the veteran film makers in the industry and has directed plenty of highly popular. The films of Sakti Samanta have been huge successes in the box office.

Sakti Samanta was born in the year 1926 in the district of Burdwan in West Bengal. He completed his graduation from Calcutta University in the year 1944. Sakti Samanta joined the film industry as an assistant director and his first work was with veterans like Satish Nigam, Gyan Mukherjee and Phani Majumdar. During the initial years of his career, he directed documentaries and small commercials.

Sakti Samanta made his first entrance in the Hindi film industry in the year 1954. He started his own production company in the year 1957. Samanta has directed around 43 films, which include 37 Hindi films and 6 Bengali films. Some of the films are double version films. The films of Sakti Samanta are known for their music, plot construction and wonderful handling of the camera.

The film was released in the year 1974. It started famous Bengali super star Uttam Kumar in both the versions. Samanta is also credited with making co productions films with Bangladesh.

Sakti Samanta has received lots of praises and acclaim for his work. He was awarded the Filmfare awards for many of his films. Plenty of his films have been shown in various prestigious film festivals in Moscow, Cairo, Berlin and other places. Samanta was also nominated the President of the Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association for 5 years and the Chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification for a period of 7 years. He was also the chairman of Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute.
