Life of Ramesh Sippy:

Like most film makers in Bollywood, Ramesh Sippy hails from a family that had already made its mark in the tinsel town. Ramesh Sippy is the son of the well known film director G.P. Sippy. Born in the Sippy family, was a boon for Ramesh Sippy, who was interested in films at a very early age. In his childhood days, he would often accompany his father to the studios. The regular visits to the studios in Bombay, (now known as Mumbai), gave Ramesh Sippy a much required exposure to films at an early age. This in turn shaped his thinking and art of film making in the later years.



Film career of Ramesh Sippy:

Ramesh Sippy started his film career at the age of nine years. He acted in the film Shahenshah as a child artiste. Ramesh Sippy played the role of Achala Sachdev's son in the film Shahenshah. After his formal education, Ramesh Sippy worked as an assistant of his father for 7 years to learn the art of film making. During this period, Ramesh Sippy assisted in both production and direction of films. He worked for films like Johar-Mehmood in Goa and Mere Sanam. Both the films were made under the banner of G.P. Sippy.

Ramesh Sippy made his directorial debut in the film Andaaz. His next film was Seeta aur Geeta, which was a smashing hit. Ramesh Sippy's Sholay released in the year 1975. It is the biggest block buster in Bollywood till date. With Sholay, Ramesh Sippy shot to fame. He made several films after, including Saagar, Shakti, Shaan, Akayla, Zamana Deewana and Zameen .

Ramesh Sippy also directed a television serial 'Buniyaad', which became one of the most popular serials of its times. Ramesh Sippy also produced a number of films in the later days. Brahmachari, Bluffmaster, Kuch Naa Kaho and Taxi No 9211 are some of films produced by Ramesh Sippy.

Ramesh Sippy made films with a difference. Films like Sholay have become timeless classics for their unmatched story line and creation of anecdotal characters like Gabbar Singh. Credit also goes to the maker of Sholay and Shakti for creating the angry young man image of Amitabh Bachchan, which became a brilliant hit in the seventies.

Ramesh Sippy is one of the few film directors in Bollywood to have directed or produced films with more than two generations of actors from the Kapoor and Bachchan clan.
