Mehboob Khan is known for his meaningful and realistic movies which make him stand as one of the greatest filmmakers of Indian film industry. Mehboob Khan, the famous filmmaker of Hindi film industry, began his career as an extra or junior artist at the Imperial Film Company. After sometimes working as a junior artist, he moved towards serious acting and at last made his debut in Film direction which was his original dream. The films of one of this most popular and famous filmmakers in Bollywood were consciously belonged to the poor and lower middle class people in the society. Viewers can experience the split between capitalism or modernism and the morally justified goodness of the tribal folk. His films were highly acclaimed and criticized which were derived from the clash between pre-capitalist ruralism and increasing modernized state with its commercial-industrial practices and values. Another most prominent and successful movie made by him is "Mother India", released in 1957. This social epic was nominated for an Academy Award in 1957. The film was based upon the constant struggle of a poor woman who faced a lot of difficulty while bringing up her children. She had to face all the odds of society since her husband ran away and later she killed her own younger son due to his illicit behavior.

His real name was Ramjan Khan who was born in Bilimoria in Gujarat. He had a dream of making meaningful movies and for that purpose only he ran away from home. He used to do some small jobs in the studios in Bombay and finally got a big break of making films with Sagar Movietone and National Studios. He established his own studio and production house in1945 which was known as Mehboob Studio.
