Guru Dutt was a legendary filmmaker of Bollywood. There are some of the greatest films which ave been made by him and still regarded as the classics in the Indian film industry. Guru Dutt was a magical, poetic ands sensitive filmmaker who made some of the gems of Hindi classic movies.

Guru Dutt, the famous filmmaker who started his career as a choreographer in Hindi movies. After that he used to assist some of the famous and talented directors like Amiya Chakravarty and Gyan Mukherjee. He was known to Dev Anand, another living legend of Hindi cinema , from before and joined as a director in his new company, Navketan Films. Guru Dutt made his first film for Navketan, Baazi. Guru Dutt and Dev Anand shared a strong bond and friendship which resulted in to some of the most unforgotten movies like Baazi and Jaal. Baazi was a super hit movie which had take him to the limelight of the film industry. After that, there was no looking back. He made a number of movies following the success of Baazi.



Some of his most popular and brilliant movies are Aar Paar, Mr. and Mrs. 55, CID, Sailaab, Pyaasa, Kaagaz Ke Phool, Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam and Chaudhvin Ka Chand. He continued to produce films and act in both home and outside productions. His films mainly dealt with various aspects of human life. He gave various interesting shades to his characters for which his actors and actresses enjoyed ample opportunities to mould themselves according to that. The music of his films was always the highlights of his movies. There were some musical scores which can be seen in his movies. These films and songs are equally popular still today. He also used the effect of light and shade to poetic and magical effect to create romance in his movies.

Guru Dutt's real name was Vasanth Kumar Shivsankar Padukone. He was born in on 9th July, 1925 in Bangalore. His father was initially a headmaster and later worked as a bank employee. He faced financial difficulties in childhood and struggled a lot throughout. His spent his childhood and finished schooling in Calcutta. He lived with his parents and other siblings in Bhowanipure in Calcutta where his father used to work in Burmah Shell company. He had a strong base in Bengal for which he used to speak fluent Bengali. He was so influenced and inspired by Bengali culture that it can be seen in some of his movies like Sahib, Bibi Aur Gulam.

He was married to the famous Bengali singer, Geeta Dutt but his personal and married life was not at all smooth. He had separated from his wife due to his involvement with his own discovery and leading actress Waheeda Rehman. But he had made his mark in his movies and is still recognized as one of the classic and famous filmmakers in Bollywood.
