Farah Khan is one of the most successful film makers in the Bollywood film industry. A famous choreographer, Farah Khan turned to film direction with the Hindi film `Main Hoon Na.` The film turned out to be a runaway hit, and Farah Khan had to never look back since.
Born on 9th January 1965, Farah Khan started her career as a choreographer. She caught attention of viewers and critics alike very soon with her choreography in the film `Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander` (1992). She went on to choreograph in many more films that turned out to be successful at the box office. Her choreography in many songs has been appreciated by all. She has received a number of awards for her efforts, such as National Film Award for Best Choreography for the film `Koi Mil Gaya` (2003). She has bagged the Filmfare Best Choreography Award five times as of 2008. Farah Khan was nominated in the Best Choreographer category for Broadway`s 2004 Tony Award.
It was in the year 2002 when Farah Khan stepped into film direction. This Indian film director-writer-choreographer always had a dream of directing a film. She was especially encouraged by friend Shahrukh Khan, the famous Bollywood actor.
She prepared the script of `Main Hoon Na` and narrated it to Shahrukh Khan. The latter not only agreed to act in the movie, but also decided to produce it. This resulted in Farah Khan putting on the director`s cap and making the film `Main Hoon Na`.
Apart from Shahrukh Khan, `Main Hoon Na` starred Sushmita Sen, Suniel Shetty, Zayed Khan, and Amrita Rao. Shahrukh Khan`s production house `Red Chillies Entertainment` produced the film. The film was Farah Khan`s dedication to the 70`s genre. It had the feel of that bygone era in its costumes and choreography. As a matter of fact, this film was choreographed by Farah Khan. `Main Hoon Na` released in the year 2004. It turned out to be one of the highest grossing films of that year. Farah Khan won the Best Debut Director award for the film at the Star Screen Awards as well as at the Zee Cine Awards.
Farah Khan developed good friendship with film editor Shirish Kunder on sets of `Main Hoon Na`. The two got married on 9th December 2004. On 11th February 2008 Farah gave birth to her triplets, comprising a son and two daughters.
Farah Khan`s second directorial venture was `Om Shanti Om` (2007). The film too starred Shahrukh Khan in the lead role and was produced by house `Red Chillies Entertainment`. The film turned out to be the biggest blockbuster of 2007.
With the kind of success Farah Khan has achieved in her stint as director till date, a lot more exciting projects are expected from her in future.
