Baldev Raj Chopra, or, B R. Chopra is one of the eminent producers and directors of movies and television serials in Bollywood. He is famous for his own production house the B. R. Films had brought quite a number of movies before the audience as all time hits. Filmmaker B. R. Chopra became well known in the world of Indian cinema with his first movie Naya Daur under the banner of the B.R. Films in the year 1955.
Born on 22nd April 1914 in Ludhiana, Punjab, Chopra did his Masters in English Literature from Lahore University and aspired to be a movie journalist. B R. Chopra as a matter of fact, started his career as a movie journalist but soon had to withdraw from his profession during the 1947 partition strifes.
Once committed to be a movie journalist, B.R. Chopra ultimately earned fame after he moved to Delhi as one of the greatest filmmakers in the platform of Indian Cinema. After Naya Daur, his second spectacular work was the movie, Fasle, another great box office hit with the able direction of Yash Chopra, his younger brother. The most fascinating thing about B R.

Chopra also showed talent as an actor in the movie Ghar, released in 1978. He was no inferior as a story writer and a playwright. In fact his talents as a story writer were exhibited in Baghban and Babul released respectively in 2003 and 2006.The story in Baghban is so rich and the cinematography, screenplay and direction are so matured that it won nation wide fame soon after its release.
The life of B R. Chopra is unique among all the other eminent filmmakers in Bollywood because he is one of the rare personalities who had earned fame not only in production and filmmaking but also in acting, story writing and direction. Some of the best movies directed by Chopra that all emerged to be all time successes are: Tawaif, Ek Hi Rasta, Chadni Chowk, Sholay (1953) and Afsana.
B R. Chopra also produced some of the fascinating movies that turned out to be one of the greatest romantic works of all times. The movies like Chhoti Si Baat, Kiraayidaar, Babul were all fabulous romantic comedies and enthralled a large number of people nation wide.
Probably B R. Chopra's greatest work is the production of Mahabharata, the most successful television serial, which is the cinematic version of the glorious Indian epic.
