Basu Chatterjee is the most renowned name in the direction of Indian Cinema. He is an eminent Indian film director. Basu Chatterjee was born on 10th January in the year 1930 in Ajmer of Rajasthan. Like the films of Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Basu Chatterjee's films also revolved around the lives of middle-class families.

Basu Chatterjee started his career as a political cartoonist of "BLITZ". During the film society movement, Basu Chatterjee decided to join Bollywood. His first stint with Bollywood was as a producer. He produced a film called "Girl Friend" in the year 1961. From then onwards, he has produced a number of films in Bollywood. The renowned ones among them are

Other than the Hindi blockbusters, Basu Chatterjee also directed some Bengali movies. He was also the director of detective series of Byomkesh Bakshi, which used to feature in Doordarshan. He also ventured into the world of television serials such as 'Darpan', 'Rajani' and 'Kakkaji Kahin'.

He was the active member of Film Forum for seven long years. He also became the secretary of film forum that became the largest film society of India in the sixties. Basu Chatterjee was also the secretary of Federation of Film Societies of India.
