Inheriting the talent of her parents Kaifi Azmi, a renowned Indian poet and Shaukat Azmi, a well known stage actress, Shabana Azmi nurtured herself into an accomplished actor. After her first art film, she made her debut in commercial film Shyam Benegal`s Ankur (1972), which fetched her national award.
