Jaya Bachhan, also known as Jaya Bhaduri, a renowned Indian legendary actress, is also one of the alumna of Film and Television Institute of India, situated at Pune. This dusky actress with the perfect look as the girl next door was one of the greatest gifts of Satyajit Ray to Bollywood as well as Indian cinema.
Personal life of Jaya Bachhan:
Jaya Bachhan was born on 10th April, 1948 to a Brahmin family in West Bengal. Her father was a journalist, writer and stage artist. She attended St. Joseph's Convent School in Bhopal. She got married to Amitabh Bachchan, superstar of Bollywood. She has experienced a lot of ups and downs in her married life, including the much talk about media publicity of her husband's affair with renowned actress, Rekha. Amitabh's failure in politics, followed by the strained relationship with Rajiv Gandhi, former Prime Minister, along with the financial crisis, kept her always in the limelight, irrespective of the fact that whether she liked it or not. She is the mother of Shweta Nanda and Abhishek Bachchan (a popular actor). Recently, Abhishek has got married to Aishwarya Rai, a Bollywood superstar.
Acting career of Jaya Bachhan:
Born to a Bengali family, Jaya Bachhan started her acting career at her teenage, with 'Mahanaga', a Satyajit Ray film. After doing a couple of Bengali movies, she opted for the Film and Television Institute at Pune to be well versed with the nuances associated with acting. She stepped into Bollywood with the movie, Guddi, a film by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, in the year 1971. It was followed by super hits like 'Anamika', 'Koshish', 'Bansi Birju', 'Ek Nazar', P'iya Ka Gha'r, 'Bawarchi', 'Annadat'a and 'Jawani Diwani'. In these movies, she proved that she was capable of portrying any character with ease and these mnovies also reflected her versaitality. She was starred opposite Amitabh Bachchan in 'Sholay', 'Abhimaan', 'Mili', 'Silsila', 'Kabhi Kabhi', 'Chupke Chupke' and 'Zanjeer'. All these movies were huge hits and it established Jaya Bachhan as a reouted actress of Bollywood.
Political career of Jaya Bachhan:
Jaya Bachhan has also stepped into politics, and she is a Member of the Rajya Sabha.
Awards and nominations received by Jaya Bachhan:
Jaya Bachhan has won 8 popular movie awards in the category of Best Actresss and Best Supporting Actress and was also nominated twice for the category of Best Supporting actress in the Screen Weekly Awards and Zee Cine Awards.
