The term Bollywood is the term popularly used to describe the flourishing film industry at the leading Indian metropolitan city- Mumbai. Bindu, one of the popular actresses of Hindi movies, added a touch of distinctiveness to every character she has enacted. The variety of interesting characters she has enacted on screen have helped her to be one of the Popular Female Actors in Bollywood.

Bindu, born to film producer Nanubhai Desai and stage actress Jyotsna, made her foray into films only after her marriage. Starting off with the film 'Do Raaste' (1969), she went on to feature in numerous films over 3 decades. The movie, 'Do Rasste' was directed by Raj Khosla. It was nominated for awards. In this movie, Bindu played the role of a newly married mischievous daughter-in- law who is instrumental in causing a dispute in the family. In the film 'Kati Patang', she sizzled in the number 'Mera Naam Shabbo'. She provided to tough competition to her co actors.



This was followed by more films like 'Ittefaaq' (1969), and 'Imtihaan' (1974). In the latter film, she delivered a captivating performance in the role of a seductress. In the same year she was seen as a nymphomaniac in the film 'Hawas'. These movies were huge hits as per the box office standards.

Bindu also played varied characters in films like "Arjun Pandit'(1973), directed by the eminent director Hrishikesh Mukherjee. She played the role of a wife to one of the greatest actors of times- all times Ashok Kumar. She also appeared in movies like 'Abhimaan' and 'Chaitali', where she played a minor role.

However, the female actor will always be known for the venom spewing characters she enacted in films like 'Aisa Pyar Kahaan' (mid- 80's), 'Ghar Ho To Aisa' and 'Pyar Ke Do Pal'(mid-80s once again).

In 'Ghar Ho To Aisa' and 'Aisa Pyar Kahaan', we see her as the heartless mother-in- law. In the Raj Kapoor production 'Prem Rog' (1981-82) as the outspoken village belle she had the audacity to speak out against the hypocrisies of the prestigious sections of society. In the year 2001, she was seen in the role of a superstitious aunt in the film-'Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi'. Bindu played a major role in one of the most successful films of Bollywood-"Hum Aapke Hain Kaun' (1993).

Bindu has enjoyed the privilege of being nominated several times for the prestigious Filmfare award. She was nominated for the category of supporting roles for movies, 'Dastaan', 'Arjun' Pandit" and 'Hawas', to name a few.
