India has the world`s biggest movie industry. Films are produced in the national language, namely- Hindi. They are also produced in the regional languages. "Bollywood" is the term popularly used for the flourishing film industry.. It is the talented breed of male and female actors of Bollywood, who have enabled this movie industry to flourish.. Antara Mali, daughter of the renowned commercial photographer Jagdish Mali shot into fame with her film "Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon". Before this movie released, she starred in many movies directed by Ram Gopal Verma (one of Bollywood`s finest directors).

Truly a survivor, the very young Mali debuted with a low budget film "Dhoondte Reh Jaonge". The film did not achieve success at the box office. Her second film "Dum Dum Diga Diga" got shelved mid- way. She got her next break in the Ram Gopal Verma film "Prem Katha", ( a Teklegu movie) It was he who later ensured her a role in his movie-"Mast". She was lucky enough to be noticed by the director who was honored for directorial prowess through prestigious awards, not less than four times. In fact, this film could be as one of her best films.



Antara Mali, now secured an author backed role in Verma`s next film "Compay". She got an opportunity to work with the young star Vivek Oberoi. With the film "Road, again produced by Ram Gopal Verma, she finally got an opportunity to play the main female lead. However, in "Road", she played the role of Lakshmi, the love interest of Arvind (Vivek Oberoi). They run away to get married, however, Lakshmi soon finds herself a hostage of hitchhiker-Babu.

Mali was seen as the young wife in the very first story in the film "Darna Mana Hai". The film was an interesting interweaving of 6 short stories of a similar theme. The central female protagonist was Antara Mali whose dead husband appears as a ghost to protect her in the middle of the night.

However, Mali will best be remembered for the role she played in the film "Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon" She played the role of a village girl, who aspires to make it big in Bollywood like Madhuri Dixit (one of Bollywood`s best actress)

A few other films pf Antara mali, that showed her versiatlity in acting are "Naach"(2004) where she acted opposite the young star Abhishek Bacchan and "Gayab" (2004), a tale about a boy who becomes invisible and tries to win the love of Antara Mali.

She has quite a number of films in her kitty. It is to be mentioned here that Antara Mali is considered one of the most popular actress of Bollywood.
