Apart from being one of the popular female actors in Bollywood, Aishwarya Rai is also one of those few actresses, who has achieved international recognition, through her performance in Hollywood movies. She has also got international recognition as one of the top ten beautiful women in the world. Aishwarya Rai was born on 1st November, in the year 1973, at Mangalore in Karnataka. She is the daughter of Vrinda Rai, a writer and Krishnaraj Rai, marine biologist by profession. Aditya Rai, her brother is an engineer in merchant navy, and also a co producer in Aishwarya movie, `Dil Ka Rishta`. She was good in academics and desired to be an architec, but detiny had other things in store for her. Aishwaryaa Rai got married to Abhishek Bachchan, an eminent actor of Bollywood cinema and the son of Bollywwod superstar, Amitabh Bachhan.



In spite of losing her Miss India - Universe title to strong opponent, Sushmita Sen, Aishwarya Rai became Miss World in the year 1994, after winning the first runners up title , Miss India - World, in the same year, 1994. The debut film of Aishwaryaa Rai was Mani Ratnam`s, `Iruvar` (1997). It was followed by a number of popular Hindi movies like `Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya`, `Taal`, `Hum Dil de Chuke Sanam`, `Josh`, `Dhoom 2`, `Jodha Akbar`, `Umrao Jaan`, `Mohabbatein` and `Devdas`. She has acted with superstars of Hindi cinema, like Salman Khan, Shahrukh Khan, Hritik Roshan, Akshaye Khanna, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, to name a few. Aishwaryaa Rai has attended the Cannes Film Festival quite a few times, from the year 2002 and was also a member of Jury in the 2003 festival. She has also appeared in the closing ceremony of Commonwealth Games of 2006 in Melbourne. One of her overseas venture is `The Mistress of Spices`. Apart from movies, her dancing skills, which came through in movies such as `Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam`, `Bunty Aur Babli` and `Shakti` was also greatly appreciated. She has also become the spokes model of L`Oreal, a popular cosmetic company.

Outstanding talent of Aishwaryaa Rai paired up with her internationally recognized blue eyed beauty, made her achieve quite a number of Awards as Best Actress in eminent Bollywood Awards. She has been the winner of Filmfare Awards, and has been nominataed almost every year since she started her career. Some of her forthcoming movies are `Robot` in Tamil language, `The Pink Panther Deux` in English and `Sarkar Raj` in Hindi.
