The movie, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun is more like a family melodrama in which Prem and Nisha play the main lead. M.F. Hussain is said to be so mesmerized by the beauty and Indian values in Nisha that he reportedly watched the movie 70 times. To the youngsters, the movie is a dream, a hope. It is a hope of finding their real-life partners like Prem or Nisha, who believe in family and traditional values.

Hum Aapke Hain Kaun or HAHK is a film that very beautifully binds romance and family traditions together. The basic story concept is one of the simplest ones ever told. It tells how Prem and Nisha meet each other and fall in love. All this happens over the course of Prem`s brother Rajesh`s marriage to Nisha`s sister Pooja.



Nisha is portrayed as a very good looking and bubby girl. She is all filled with life and energy. Despite of being modern, she is very much traditional too. Prem on the other hand seems as a fun loving youth in the starting of the film. He teases and woos Nisha. In the second half of the film, he can see a more responsible and serious-about-life Prem. This pair is indeed one of the most well-liked reel pair in Hindi cinema.

In the middle of the festivities, merriment and teasing eachother, Prem and Nisha fall in love. The fun and frolic and romance of Prem and Nisha Hum Aapke Hain Kaun continue till Pooja dies in an accident. She leaves behind a heart-broken Rajesh, and their newborn child. When the elders of the family decide to get Nisha married to Rajesh, she decides to sacrifice her love for her deceased sister`s child.

The whole credit for making a simple story create a magical effect on the viewers goes to Sooraj Barjatya. He is also highly credited for creating the much loved pair of Nisha and Prem that will stay in the audience hearts forever. The movie elaborately displays the Indian marriage and customs. The various customs are beautifully shown with lovely songs that have foot tapping music.
