Shabana Azmi is a famous Bollywood actor who has made a very popular name for herself in parallel cinema. Along with her film career, Shabana Azmi is also famous for promoting social causes and is a leading social activist in the country. She obtained her graduation degree in Psychology from the famous St. Xavier`s College in Mumbai. Subsequently she also did a course in acting from the Film and Television Institute of India or FTII in Pune.

Shabana Azmi married Javed Akhtar on 9 December 1984. She had started out her movie career in Shyam Benegal`s Ankur in the year 1972. She won a national award for her role. Shabana Azmi has won 4 National Awards for her movies like Arth, Khandhar, Paar and Godmother.

Shabana Azmi is also a committed social activist. Her fight for social awareness AIDS brought her a lot of acclaim. She is also known for voicing her honest opinion on a number of issues.
