Gulzar and Rakhi is one of the most important celebrity couples belonging to Bollywood. Gulzar has the distinction of being immensely versatile lyricist, poet, film director and story writer which Bollywood has ever produced. On the other hand Rakhi is also considered to be blessed with excellent acting talent. The Bengali actress is considered to be the most successful professional in her real life while she has also proved herself an ardent lover, a responsible wife and a true mother. Gulzar and Rakhi have contributed much to the Indian film industry and their journey still goes on.
The real name of Gulzar is Sampoorna Singh. He was born on 18th August, 1936 in the town of Deena which is now in Pakistan. It was during the tumultuous phase of the partition when he decided to move from Pakistan to India. Later he shifted his base to Delhi. Gulzar started his career as a poet and soon he was associated with the Progressive Writers Association.
Gulzar started his career in the film industry in a very low key manner. He started his reel life journey as an assistant to Bimal Roy, Hemant Kumar and Hrishikesh Mukherjee. His association with these stalwarts ensured him to learn a lot about direction and sharpen his skills in the field. Gulzar made his debut as a lyricist with the song Mora Gora Ang Lai Lae. The song was included in Bimal Roy's movie Bandini which he had made in 1963.
Gulzar is a master craftsman who has portrayed sensitive subjects of human relations, social issues and human psychologies brilliantly in his songs and stories. After consolidating his position as the most sensitive lyricist, he started writing stories and scripts for Hindi films and proved his mark in the fields. "Mere Apne" was the directorial debut of Gulzar. It was made in 1971. The film brought him good reviews from the film critics. Since then Gulzar has been progressing steadily and given a good number of movies ranging from serious to comedy films.
Gulzar has been honored with numerous awards for his distinguished contribution in different genres of film making. He has received the prestigious National Award 3 times for best screenplay in Koshish, best director in Mausam and best lyricist in Ijazat. He is honored with Film fare Award 14 times.
Rakhi was born on 15th August, 1947 to a customary but humble Bengali family. Despite the fact that Rakhi enjoyed no connection with the film industry, she made it big in the Bollywood film industry crossing all the hurdles on her path. The real talent of Rakhi as an actress was recognized by actor Sunil Dutt who gave her a break in his film "Reshma Aur Shera." After doing small roles in films like Falak and Lal Paththar she finally grabbed the film called Jeevan Mrityu opposite Dharmendra. This film proved to be a big hit and it established Rakhi as a very talented actress. Some of her important films include:
