Ravi K. Chandran is one of the most talented cinematographer in Indian cinema today. He has been highly praised by the critics for his works. He has worked for the Tamil film industry as well as Bollywood.
Ravi K Chandran's first experience as a cinematographer in Hindi film was with Priyadarshan's Viraasat in the year 1997. He further gained recognition with Farhan Akhtar's Dil Chahta Hai and Rakesh Roshan's Koi Mil Gaya. His passion for the camera drives him into creating wonderful cinematography for the movies.
Ravi K. Chandran was born in Maduranthakam, Tamil Nadu, India. He did his graduation from A. M. Jain College in the year 1982. He began his career by working in Malayalam films, but very soon carved a special niche for himself in the Tamil film industry. Films like Minsara Kanavu and Kandukondain Kandukondain have brought him much fame. Ravi K. Chandran worked in association with various eminent film directors like Mani Ratnam, Rajiv Menon and Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
Today he has various films to his credit, in which he has worked as a cinematographer.
The penchant that Ravi K Chandran developed for a camera was predictable as his own brother, Ramachandra Babu was in the same profession. Ramachandra Babu is an award-winning cinematographer who shot unforgettable Malayalam films for Bharatan, Padmarajan and K G George. Ramachandra Babu has worked as a cinematographer for many Tamil films as well as Hindi films. Ravi K. Chandran initially worked as an assistant to his brother.
Ravi K. Chandran has been honored with many awards for his cinematography. He won the award of the best cinematographer for the movie Virasat in 1998 and Black in 2006. Some of the popular films for which he has worked on as cinematographer are:-
