When Anita walked into her office, the maid ran to her and said, Madam, One more baby has come today. Anita ran along with the maid and saw a cute little baby wrapped in a blanket playing in the cradle. She or is it he her thoughts were interrupted, She, a girl, she exclaimed. She held the baby in her arms and said,You poor dear. As she walked back into her office to start the paper work, there was a lot of mental chatter. Why girls, Why? Who has given birth to the child, a girl, who has the guy married? A girl¦ Who is his mother, A GIRL! Then why are people so biased against girls?
Anita and Samir were trying to have kids but in vain. They went for their check ups and the doctor said that everything was fine. Then why? Anita asked. The doctor shrugged and said there is no clinical explanation. Anita was exasperated. She was quiet all evening, Samir went up to her put his arms around her and said, Everything will be fine Anita. Maybe the time has not come for us to become parents as yet, he said philosophically. Anita sighed heavily,It is so strange Samir. Sometimes I wonder, for everyone else getting married having kids is a normal thing. It is as if they have all been programmed and everyone is supposed to be programmed for this stuff. I wonder what we were doing when God was programming. Was it a lunch break and when he came back he forgot that he has not programmed us yet? And he sent us out. Suddenly Samir started laughing, Man, you are going crazy, dont worry so much. Everything will be fine. Anita laughed too but she was sad inside and she had a dirty feeling that she was right. After a few weeks the doctor suggested IVF treatment. They went through the whole treatment but Anitas fears came true. Everything was fine but Gods intervention was missing. The IVF treatments were unsuccessful.

One of the days when she decided to forget everything, she went to her office and started her daily rounds. As she walked past each cradle, she smiled and told the children Welcome to the world dear, A she went past, one of the children opened their eyes and smiled back at her and threw her arms at Anita , As if saying thank you and Hold me! she immediately lifted the child and was enveloped in the feeling of love. She stood with the child in her arms and just could not put her down. She came back to her senses when the maid called out, Madam, Mada. Yes, yes śshe replied and snapped out. Saab has come to see you. the maid said. Anita ran to see Samir, this could not have been a better time she thought. Samir was standing smiling, Are you ready for lunch my dear? he asked. Anita could not help herself she ran and hugged him tight. I Love you, Samir she said and they left hand in hand for lunch. Anita described her experience at the Orphanage. Samir listened to her intently. Then he asked, Do want to adopt the child? Anita was not ready to reply to his answer, her heart said yes but, her mind was apprehensive, she just managed to say, I dont know. For the next few days, Anita went to see the child everyday and each time she held her she was engulfed in the envelope of love. She kept thinking about the child all day long. She even spoke about the child at home. Samir understood that Anita loved the child and that they should adopt her. But he did not want to put any pressure; he wanted Anita to make the decision. Then finally, Anita came home one day and told Samir, I am ready to answer your question, I want to adopt the baby. Samir smiled he already knew this he hugged her and said Hey , I am the Dad, I should be given the privilege to name her,. Anita smiled You have it dear she said. Samir said, Well then I will name her Anupama which means Invalua
