If you cant ignore having junk food in this pacy little world, then why not customize them to make our taste buds and our body system happy. When we look at the food ingredients which increase the junk feature of the foods we enjoy, most of the buns, breads, pastas and pizza bases are made with refined wheat flour maida). The refinement takes away the good nutrients of wheat along with the roughage needed to keep our system cleansed.
Awareness about this fact has already made an impact. A combination of whole wheat flour with maida in varying proportions gives an acceptable product. Whole wheat and brown breads, with added seeds and nuts to improve taste and increase nutritive values are available today. Adding grated and shredded vegetables to make the dough more nutritious is another alternative.
To decrease the fat and cholesterol levels of pizzas and buggers you can decrease the cheese and use paneer instead, or to add variety, use tofu if you like the taste. Serve lots of vegetables along with these modified goodies. I have no suggestion to improve French fries, except maybe have them with a nutritious and refreshing mint dip. Our own desi samosa can be filled with nourishing vegetables instead of just potatoes. So here you go a nutritious meal without any future worries. All I can say is enjoy with awareness!
