It is the common belief of most of the women that retaining a thin stature give them a younger look. Recent studies have offered a new dimension to the concept. The studies have given proofs supporting the fact that woman over 40 looks younger if they have a fat face.

In the research 180 pairs of twins were taken in consideration and were compared. It revealed that when a woman shed weight then she gets aged look wise by about 4 years on an average. Dr Bahaman Guyuron is the lead researcher for the study. According to him, The perceived age of an individual is usually attributed to both genetics and environment in various degrees.

Twins were taken in consideration, as their genetic make up happen to be same but the difference in how old they look is solely based the different external and lifestyle factors. The conclusion is been drawn by means of a fallacy. The Body Mass Index (BMI) of each pair of twin is been calculated by the researchers. The ideal BMI for an adult range between 8.5 and 25. The individuals, having BMI lower than 18.5 were considered underweight. Guyuron said that, if the BMI is higher by 4 points then appearance tend to be younger by 2-4 years for women 40 aged 40 years or above.

Guyuron has also defied another normal belief by saying that the more fat accumulated in the face that is on cheek give rise to younger look. This point is been supported by Rajiv Grover, Consultant Plastic Surgeon and Secretary of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. He also said that a woman undergoing excessive dieting will have a loss of fullness in the mid face that is the cheek. This will take away most of her charm. He also pointed that repetition of facial treatment for volume gain and loss might cause deeper nose to mouth lines and jaw bones. Divorce, smoking, sunbathing and drinking are some of the other causes of having premature ageing.
