Needlework, An Art old yet Contemporary

Needle work is one of the most practiced crafts all over the world. It is one of the art forms related to all the major customs and traditions prevailing across the world. Needle work basically depicts the fascinating adornment used for primping various household articles starting from art pieces to furnishings, such as, bed linen, curtain, table cloths, handkerchiefs, attires to even handbags and shoes. In more precise terms, needle works can be referred as a decorative sewing and textile arts. As a form of needle is used in creating them, thats the reason why they are called as needle works. The needles can be ranged under various forms, such as the needles used for sewing, weaving to the crochet hooks and the shuttles used for lace making.

Exquisite masterpieces made of imaginations can be drawn by means of colorful threads and the needles and the entire process represents needlework. Great skill, perfection and competence are required for creating these exclusive art forms. So great patience and practice happen to be the tag mark for producing the fascinating range of craft. There are various forms of needle works, which are in vogue and they all create a fantasy on textiles.

Here is a quick look at the different form of needle works and it will surely be a delight to explore the fascinating world of the textile art. The most significant ones happen to be, simple sewing, Tapestry, Braiding and Tassel making, Braiding and Tassel making, Lucet,Tatting, Knitting, Embroidery, Crochet, Appliqu and Quilting. The embroideries come in various forms and styles and each of them are unique in their own way to depict a dream woven in ecstasy.

Types of Needle work

Quilting: It is a sewing procedure done either by hand or a sewing machine. Several pieces of materials are joined together in order to have a wonderful item used for keeping ones self warm. Chain or run stitch is mainly used in an elaborate manner to expose the beauty of the articles to greater scale. Quilting is done for creating various items, such as, bed spread, clothing, wall hangings and various others.

Appliqu : This is a form of needlework, in which a patterned piece of fabric or embroidery is sewn on another piece of fabric to form unique designs. Satin Stitch and Chain Stitch happen to be the main stitching used for attaching the appliqu pieces. Applique mainly used to be a traditional form of needle work but has gradually became an effective part of the designer apparels.

Crochet: It is one of the most fascinating needle work crafts popular throughout the world for the beautiful creations rendered by it. In crochet fabrics are been made by means of threads or yarns. The procedure is somehow similar like knitting, the only difference is that though loops are used in making crochets but its only one loop which remains active at one time. The loop is known as crochet hook.

Embroidery: It is one of the very unique and the most beautiful form of needle work used for weaving fabulous designs on fabrics by means of needle and thread. The designs are complemented well by means of pearls, sequins, beads and various other attributes. All though embroideries are mainly done by hand but at present, they are also done by means of machine. Still, nothing can beat the charm of the hand made embroideries. Cross Stitch, Satin stitch, chain stitch is some of the popular form of embroideries.

Lace Making: Lucet cords are used for making various kinds of drawstrings, strong cords and lace making. Lace forms an important part of needle work craft made by weaving strands of threads of like or colors or multi color.

Tapestry: It is another important form of textile art woven on a vertical loom. They are typical art forms of vibrant colors and pattern and are made of two sets of interlaced threads. The tapestries constitute vivacious pictures and bore a royal elegance. Many times the threads used included, silk, gold, silver and other valuable varieties of thread.
