A time to eat

Rajni Shah

The mobile screamed for my attention. Suppressing a yawn I picked up the receiver. Hi! said a cheery voice. Hey! Come join us for dinner. Were very close to your place. Were at the new Residency. Sleepily I looked at the time. It was way past midnight. In another few hours it would be time for my breakfast. So, I declined the offer and went right back into bed.As I sat down to breakfast the next morning I was wondering what could be the possible impact of such untimely meals on the system. That too this is not a one off occasion. This is how most young people working in these new BPO and call centers eat. This unique body machine which came to us free, gratis and for nothing is probably the only gadget in our possession that is consciously put through tolerance tests that more often than not it manages to pass. However, over a period of time the body shows signs of disapproval. When you eat can be as important to good health as what you eat. Finding time seems to be the most important thing that people have a problem with. So, rule number one is- make your meals a priority. Dont skip a meal. Stock up some healthy snacks in your draw at the office.Want to control your weight do not miss the first meal of the day. Eat lunch. It is integral in keeping your energy levels up through the afternoon.IT IS ALRIGHT TO SNACK. IT BOOSTS ENERGY LEVELS AND IS AN EFFECTIVE WAY OF PREVENTING OVEREATING AT MAIN MEALS. BUT SNACK SMART! Your metabolism naturally slows as the day wears on. So, avoid heavy dinners late at night. Another valid reason for avoiding late night meals is late-night impulsive food choices tend to be high in fat and calories.

Sonal,

I wish you could suggest some snacks that are low calorie and yet tasty. I am sick of eating salads.

Ayesha,

I think you are so right about us taking our bodies for granted. We only seem to pay attention to it when something goes wrong. But, let me tell you from experience and I’m sure you’ll agree that sometimes even if you prioritise the nature of the job is such that you get caught up in a whirlwind of activities and your priorities just change.
