There are plenty of physical methods that intervene with birth control. Hormonal methods are one of the best physical methods for women to control child birth and pregnancy. There are different types of hormonal pills that are used by women as physical methods of contraception.

All the barrier methods are also commonly used as physical methods for contraception. Among barrier methods condom is most popular among many men across the globe. Condom is the physical method of birth control measure among men. Female condoms are also used by many women who do not desire to be pregnant. Other barrier methods for contraception include cervical barriers, contraceptive sponges and cervical caps. Diaphragms are also often used by many women.

Intrauterine devices are also commonly used physical methods for contraception in females. These devices are implanted within the uterus of a woman. The device resembles an English capital T. The arm of the T helps to hold the T in its position. Two types of Ts are found generally in the market.

Some women also use centchroman or ormeloxifene as a physical method of contraception. Ormeloxifene are nothing but selective estrogen receptor modulator. The benefit of SERM is, it helps in asynchronous ovulation with the formation of the lining of the uterus. As a result even though fertilization takes place, the zygote or the fertilized egg is not allowed to get implanted in the uterus. Hence pregnancy is avoided in many cases.

Induced abortion is another common form of physical method of contraception. Many drugs are used to terminate pregnancy. Dilation and evacuation processes and suction aspiration abortion are also commonly used physical methods of birth control in many women. However it is advisable to consult your physician or health adviser before actually practising this physical method of contraception.

Physical methods also include emergency contraception. If you become pregnant against your wish you can terminate it within 3 days.

Sterilization by tubal ligation is also practised as one of the physical methods for birth control. Sterilization is practised in both male and female. In female, ligation of the tubes causes permanent birth control as the ovum can not unite with the sperm. In male, ligation of the tubes or vasectomy makes a male permanently sterile without affecting his sexual desire or making him impotent.

Rhythm method and withdrawal method are also commonly practised physical methods of birth control. However both the methods are not 100% effective. In the rhythm control method a track is kept on the ovulation cycle. Usually the first 4 days before and 2 days after ovulation are the unsafe period and the chances for getting pregnant is highest during these phase.

Monthly hormone shots also are effective physical methods for birth control and are practised by many women.
