Your beauty care regimen can be simple, yet effective, if you follow a few ground rules as a daily routine.
  • Remember that your skin needs nourishment from inside and eat plenty of healthy foods. Your skin needs a drink too! Weren't you always told about the sanctity of drinking at least eight glasses of water every day? These eight glasses will go a long way in helping to maintain your skin's elasticity and suppleness. And NO! Neither coffee nor other caffeinated or aerated drinks come under this scheme as they simply have a dehydrating effect on the skin. You can drink treated or purified water, or mineral water. A practical suggestion is for you to keep a 1 ½ litre bottle of water with you and keep taking sips at regular intervals.
  • Decide on the make up that suits your skin best. It is very important that you keep all your make up tools clean and dirt-free. Dirty brushes will cause your skin to break out in allergies as they carry bacteria and germs if left unclean. This exercise should be carried out at least twice a month. Simply soak them for half an hour in warm soapy water using baby shampoo or any mild detergent. Rinse thoroughly, blot excess moisture and stand them up in a tumbler to dry.
  • A good moisturiser is very essential to keep environmental pollutants at bay. Those with added vitamin A, C & E are particularly effective.
  • Never underestimate the power of exercise in rejuvenating and activating the skin by improving the blood circulation. It also helps to trigger the secretion of sebum, which is nature's own moisturiser, in the body.
  • One of our Experts suggests the following home treatment - Take a cup of yogurt and add the juice of a lime to it. Stir well and store in the refrigerator. Use it in place of a cream every night. A thin coating of moisturiser used after 5 minutes helps to seal in the effect. In about 3 to 4 weeks, you will notice that the pigmentation on your face is more even and that the skin definitely feels smoother.
  • Stress often leads to acne breakouts. It also worsens chronic skin conditions. It is here that some quality time spent on yourself - meditating or even daydreaming - will help. Keep healthy sleeping hours. Sleep on your back as it will prevent puffiness in the eyes caused by fluid collection. Remember that stress not only affects your skin, it is bad for your general wellbeing.
The skin has other important functions to perform. It enables you to sense temperature, touch and texture. It keeps body temperature within normal limits and prevents dehydration of internal organs. Health-threatening environmental elements are prevented from entering the body as the skin acts as a natural barrier. Exfoliating, Cleansing and Moisturising should be your daily mantra. Always remember to protect your skin from the harmful UV rays of the sun with a good sun block. A good, healthy skin, according to a Beauty Consultant, depends on three factors - how you've cared for it, how aware you are of the factors that affect it and how you've dealt with any skin problem that you might have experienced. Proper care and adherence to a suitable routine will go a long way towards making your skin glow with good health
