Plagued by excessive dry skin? Is it that your skin feels stretched and parched even as finish applying your skin cream? You guessed it! To beat dry skin, you need to give it constant care with the right skin hydrators and emollients to get that dewy smoothness. The right moisturiser compensates for the deficiencies in your skin`s natural oil-film. It keeps your skin lubricated making it soft, smooth and looking more youthful.
Using the Right Amount
First of all you do not need gobs of the stuff but you need the right product. Remember that a dime size is enough for the face and a blob, the size of a Marie biscuit is enough for your body.
To get the maximum benefit from your moisturizer, you need to cleanse your face and body before application. Another good idea will be to clean your face and body at least twice a week with a gentle scrub to slough off dead skin cells. It will allow your skin to absorb the emollients better. Even a home made scrub of milk cream and oatmeal or wheat husk can help you get rid of dead skin cells without stripping moisture and natural oils. In fact the lactic acid in the milk cream can help improve skin`s condition. And the other days use a loofah along with a body wash to clear away skin and prep it for your moisturiser.
Applying the Right Way
Take a dime size amount and apply all over your face and neck. Gently rub it into your skin, don`t tug or pull your skin. Massage it into your skin using circular, upward strokes avoiding the under eye region. Upward strokes will help the emollients seep into your skin and form a barrier to protect its natural water balance. For the under eye region, take a little cream on the tips of your ring finger and pat gently on the area. Do it ever so lightly as the skin here is most likely to get damaged. Start at the outward corner of your eye, going slowly to the inner corner. Your lips too need daily maintenance or else you may develop wrinkles and fine lines around the lips that can make your mouth lose its definition. Dab petroleum jelly generously over your mouth and around it as well. Then taking a soft baby toothbrush, rub gently in circular motion to dislodge the dry flakes. Wipe with soft wet muslin and apply more lip balm. Using a cream with AHA or even your night repair cream to avoid the appearance of fine line around your mouth. Creams with AHA, vitamin A and E and emollients can cure cracks very easily.
Body skin may be tougher but if you have dry skin then you need to moisturise. Especially because the clothes we wear tend to soak away moisture from out skin. Like your face, you also need to moisturise your body twice a day with a body cream to keep it looking smooth.
