Get rid of all the beauty myths. Beauty doesn't always come off the shop shelf. It isn't always expensive. You can have beauty on a shoestring. And it is just as effective. Here's how you go about it.

  • Is your skin toner eating into your budget? Make your own toner at home. It's easy. Chop a cucumber and put it in a blender. Strain and pour the liquid in a bottle. Refrigerate and use it on your face about three times a day.
  • It's party time. And your hair is standing on end refusing to fall into place! Dampen your hair a little. Pour a few drops of moisturiser into your palms and gently rub over your hair. Brush your hair gently. It will settle well. Don't use too much moisturiser or your hair will get a flat oily look.
  • Do your nails look shabby and discoloured? Rub them with lime juice. This cleans the pink of your nails and whitens the tips. Your nails will look well maintained and chic.
  • Mix some glitter powder with Vaseline and apply to your cheeks and lips for an ultra glamorous look. This gives you a chic look and doesn't cost half as much as glittery make up normally does.
  • Anti cellulite creams are very expensive and don't often produce the desired results. Just drink two litres of warm water every day. You cellulite will get flushed out.

  • A thinner foundation is more suitable in warm and humid places. Pour a few drops of water in your palm and blend it well with a bit of foundation. Apply on face for a light, even, finished look.
  • Is your foundation a shade too dark for you? Mix it with a bit of moisturiser before you apply it on your face.
  • Does your hair need some deep conditioning? Mash a ripe banana in a blender. Add 2 tablespoons of honey and blend a little more. Massage the mixture into your hair. Wash it off with lukewarm water after 30 minutes. Your hair will have a soft bouncy look.
  • Oh no! It's party time and a pimple is sprouting up! Relax. Take an eyebrow pencil and dot it over your pimple. Make it look like a mole. Apply a light coat of face powder over it. You're ready for anything, beauty spot and all.
  • Keep a bottle of coconut oil/ olive oil in your bathroom. Just add a few drops to your bath water. Your whole body will get moisturised while bathing and you won't have an oily look either. Super smooth skin in a jiffy - at no great cost!
  • Bags under your eyes? Not to worry! Dab a bit of egg white under your eyes. Let it dry before you rinse it off. It will tighten the area under your eyes.
  • Bushy eyebrows? And you haven't the time to tweeze them now. Just stroke your eyebrows with the mascara brush lightly and effectively. Your brows will have a slick, chic look.
