- Queen Cleopatra herself has been credited with writing a book on beauty secrets.
- Skin scrubs, hair removing methods, and anti wrinkle creams were commonly used by the Egyptians.
- They used perfume regularly. Perfume vials were found in the Pharaoh's tombs. Frankincense and myrrh were also used.
- Skin care was not reserved for the privileged classes only. Even the slaves and working classes were given oils to anoint their bodies with. Regular skin care served as protection from harsh sun and dry winds.
- Egyptian women used medicated powders to scrub her body with everyday.
- Women used special oils and creams to do away with their stretch marks after pregnancy.
- They used henna and aloe vera to wash their hair. The same ingredients are being advertised in shampoos and creams today.
- A lot of creams and massages were meant to stimulate hair growth and prevent premature balding in men.
- Excess hair was usually removed off the body of women. Baby girls were massaged with a paste that discouraged the growth of body hair.
- Razors and tweezers were found in Egyptian tombs.
- Now eye this. All Egyptians, regardless of their gender or status used black kohl like substance to enhance their eyes.
- Cosmetics were not only meant for beauty. They acted as a kind of medication as well. The kohl they used in their eyes was also used to keep away eye ailments.
- Many cosmetics and perfumes were believed to have magical properties that kept away evil spirits from people.
- Skin and hair care were associated with personal hygiene. People weren't encouraged to ignore it.
