Most of the body’s weight is supported by the lower back and therefore it is subject to maximum mechanical stress.

The measures that should be taken for the prevention of back pain include proper exercises like aerobics, yoga and various muscle strengthening activities. Keeping your posture correct while sitting, walking as well as sleeping is also one of the preventive measures of back pain. Also if you are required to sit in one place for long hours make sure you stretch and take a short walk at regular intervals to avoid muscle cramp and lower back pain. Using the right kind of mattress to sleep on is another way of preventing back pain. While lifting heavy objects avoid bending and try to keep your posture upright. If you need to move something heavy, it is better to push instead of pulling. For walking long distances wear flat shoes with proper cushioning.
