Parents want to keep their baby safe from any kind of illness or diseases, but some common ailments are inevitable. The sickness of a baby sometime becomes a mystery for new parents and they feel unprepared to evaluate their infant illness but there are some common signs that make you know that your baby is sick. New parents don`t know when they need a medical help for their baby and how to handle him or her during sickness. Some signs given below will help you to handle your baby sickness:
Feeding: If you find major changes in your baby`s appetite such as feeding quite less than normal or frequency of feeding has come down, your baby could be sick. Seek medical help to make out the clear reason of changes in appetite.
Fever: Fever is not an illness, it is actually a symptom indicating several other diseases or illness. Mild fever is common and it will get down within a short time but if thermometer reading is getting higher, especially when your baby is less than three months old, call a doctor immediately. Thermometer reading around 101°F for babies who are three to six months old is not normal and they should be taken to a doctor immediately.
Changing mood: If your baby repeat episodes of inconsolable crying or irritation, seems lethargic or unusually difficult to rouse, your baby is not fine. He or she needs medical help as these signs indicate that your baby is sick.
Dehydration: Dehydration is an associated condition of improper feeding, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, etc and one can recognize if the baby is not properly hydrated by symptoms such as dry eyes and mouth, reduced frequency of urination, etc. Inform your doctor if you recognize these symptoms in your baby as he or she may be suffering from certain illness.
Vomiting: Babies up to the age of six months usually spit out but if the episode is repeated frequently , it indicates a bad health. Vomiting too frequently indicates that your baby is ill and if you notice that or dehydration, rush to your doctor.
Diarrhea: If your baby stool is loose or watery and he or she has 5-6 watery stools a day, it indicates that your baby has some health problem and that he or she needs medical attention to avoid dehydration or other serious illness.
Rashes: Rashes are quite common in infants, but they could indicate an illness if they have covered a large area on his or her body. If rashes occur with fever, swelling, your baby may require a medical help.
Colds: Colds are common in babies but if it lasts for more than three weeks and that too with severe cough or fever, seek medical help for your baby. Colds result in difficulty in breathing thus a doctor`s assistance is necessary.
Difficulty in Breathing: If your child is undergoing breathing difficulty, you should consult a doct6or immediately as he or she could be seriously ill.
New parents if observe any or a some of the symptoms listed above, should refer to a doctor as their baby could be sick.
