Diaper Rash among babies is highly irritating for the sensitive and tender skin of your child. Diapers refer to a nappy or a garment that is made of absorbent materials to soak moisture. Babies wear diapers because they do not have control over their bladder or bowel movement. But too much use of diapers is harmful for the soft baby skin as it often leads to itchy skin rashes in babies. Diaper rash among babies is a significant health concern among babies.

If you keep your baby in diapers for a long time the skin becomes wet and soggy; this leads to the eruption of rashes. These rashes appear as bright red patches and little blisters. Diaper rash is a common skin problem in babies in the first fifteen months after birth; it mainly affects baby in between the eight and the tenth month. Diaper rash is a form of the medical condition called dermatitis (inflamed skin). The common skin irritants to a baby skin are urine and stool bacteria, ammonia that is produced while the chemicals in urine breaks down; other irritants are detergents, perfumes, baby wipes that are pre-moistened and perfumes and plastics that are present in disposable diapers.

Diaper rash usually happens after your baby starts taking in solid food or having antibiotic medicines. Generally what happens that is that if parents fail to change nappies at regular intervals the baby is at high risk of developing diaper rashes. The presence of soap that is used to wash the baby clothes might cause skin irritation and rashes. Plastic pants that are worn over diapers raise the temperature of the body in and around the diaper area; heat, moisture and an irritated skin is an ideal combination for the occurrence of diaper rash among babies.

Diapers are effective when you are traveling or when your baby is sleeping. It comes with advantage but has its share of disadvantages. As a caring parent you would definitely like to protect your li-l angel from this problem of diaper rash among babies. For these you need to follow the tips for preventing diaper rash that are mentioned below:
Change the baby diaper frequently
Frequent checking if your baby is in diapers and is sleeping at night because they tend to urinate more during this time.
Try to keep your infant without diapers because it allows proper air circulation
Creams that has ingredients like boric acid, phenol, methyl salicylate or camphor should be avoided because this might cause chemical sensitivity and lead to the scaling and chafing of the skin.

You can help your baby in getting rid of diaper rashes through application of cream like Pinvax which is clinically proven to cure rashes. Ointments like Desitin, Eucerin, Zinc oxide cream if applied, act as a barrier between your baby`s skin and stool or urine. Aquaphor and Vaseline, which are composed of petrolatum, are good diaper rash creams. You should avoid using clotrimazole and steroids to treat diaper rash because it might lead to severe side effects like skin atrophy and retardation of growth in babies.
